Post 1187 is proud to represent Castle Rock and the surrounding area as the leader in American Legion activities.
We are officially known as Harry C. Miller, Post 1187 of The American
Legion, District 5 of the Department of Colorado. Harry is our namesake
for the Post. He died in WWII, but his story is worth reading. Click
About to learn more.
Chartered November 1987, the Post has grown to over one hundred and
forty members strong (as of September 2011). Some members of the Post are
active in the local community, participating in parades and other
special events. Some of our members give flag pre-sentations to schools
and various organizations.
The Post has twenty-nine full sized flags for display that generates quite
a show.
The Post performs Color Guard presentations where flags are posted for an event. Our
Post has an active All Veterans Honor Guard (AVHG). The Castle Rock AVHG
is one of six in this area that conducts final military honors, mostly
at Fort Logan, for the families of recently deceased veterans. Our unit
alone sounded the passing of one hundred sixty-seven of our comrades from
all branches of militaryservice in 2010.
